Ubisoft has apparently abandoned plans for a sequel to its 2020 mythological experience video game Immortals Fenyx Increasing as the business shifts its focus towards its major franchises. According to sources familiar with the matter who spoke with Video Games Chronicle, Ubisoft Quebec was in early development of the follow-up game, however the project was eventually scrapped this month due to perceived obstacles in developing the IP.
The initial Immortals video game, established by Ubisoft Quebec, received typically favorable reviews. (Back in 2020, GameSpot gave the video game a 7/10.) Ubisoft had wished to transform it into a franchise and check out different folklores beyond Greece in future installments, such as Hawaiian Polynesian myths. The first game followed gamers on a mission to conserve the Greek gods and later on introduced a DLC that explored Chinese mythology with a brand-new hero, martial artist Ku.
Doubts surrounding future strategies for Immortals developed when Ubisoft chose to shift its attention to its most popular brand names. Previously this year, the company announced its intention to cancel 3 unannounced games, along with a strategic shift towards reinforcing its focus on major IPs and live services, following lower-than-expected software application sales during the holiday.
When VGC approached for remark, a Ubisoft representative declined to deal with the reports and speculation surrounding the cancellation.
While Immortals: Fenyx Rising did discover a modest (though loyal) audience, its sales were considerably lower in Europe compared to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla during a comparable timeframe. Offered Ubisoft’s mentioned technique and the game’s sales efficiency, the decision to discontinue the series may not come as a surprise.
