Out of all the modes readily available in Destiny 2, Gambit presently seems the least-loved activity in the video game. After a Witch Queen revamp last year, the PvPvE mode has mostly stayed the very same and is mostly used as an outlet to mark off difficulties throughout a season in exchange for some quick experience points. Heading into Season 22, very little is altering here, but Bungie is intending to make some updates to it when The Final Shape growth launches.
These changes consist of porting the Cathedral of Scars map into mode and adding in brand-new opponent types– Shadow Legion and Lucent Hive– to somewhat shake Gambit up. Bungie states that Gambit will continue to serve as a source of Exotic engrams via weekly challenges, but starting in Season 22, all weekly difficulties can be completed in any routine.
The number of Gambit-specific Seasonal Challenges starting in Season 22 are also being lowered, but this mode will still offer some equipment that’s specific to it. Bungie included that it’ll be including Fireteam Matchmaking to Gambit next Season, which will change the Freelance node and should lead to faster and better matchmaking by combining both Gambit playlists. Finally, Season 22 will see a new Void Machine Gun offered to earn exclusively in Gambit, so there’ll be at least one factor to go to the Drifter when the next season starts.
While Gambit’s upcoming changes are small, bigger revamps are on the horizon in Season 22 and beyond. PvP is getting a new map and modes, some big quality-of-life changes are planned, and Bungie has displayed its early strategies to change some bounties with a more gratifying and appealing system that has the working title of Pathfinder.
